VGHS Boys Track and Field
Boys at Arcola triangular
Kyler Williams placed first in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump to lead the Blue Devils efforts in Arcola on April 26. Kurt Zimmerman, Chase White and Austin Zoch finished 1,2,3 in the 1600 meters, and Layne Rund won the high jump. Andrew Fonner and Blake Davis finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 800m, Brady Clodfelder finished 4th in the 400m, and Nolan Morse strode to a 4th place finish in the 300m hurdles. Connor Black finished 6th in the shot and discus, and Garrett Dale finished 7th in the shot to round out the individual results. The 4×100 quartet of Mason Carter, Gunner Cline, Layne Rund and Braydon Dowler finished 2nd, as did the 4×200 group, which consisted of Carter, Cline, Ryan Schlueter and Dowler. Matching the runner up result was the 4×400 squad of Morse, Rund, Dowler and Logan Turner, while the 4×800 quartet of Turner, Zoch, Zimmerman and White ran 3rd.
Layne Rund’s 8th place finish highlighted Blue Devil efforts at the prestigious St. Joseph Ogden Spartan Classic. Other top 12 finishers included Braydon Dowler (9th in 200m), Rund, (12th in 400m) and Kurt Zimmerman(11th in 3200m)
VGHS Girls Track and Field
Kenzie Cardiff placed first in the 100m and 3rd in the 200m, Carley Eads won the shot put and the discus, Kirstyn Jones backed Eads with a 2nd place finish in the discus and the 4x800m relay quartet of Scarlet Howard, Madison Logan, Kyleigh Price and Emma Buesing also finished first for VGHS. Kacy Leith leaped to a runner up finish in the long jump, as did Buesing in the triple jump.
Lady Sages Invitational
Carley Eads finished 11th in the discus and the 4×800 relay squad, consisting of Scarlett Howard, Madison Logan, Kyleigh Price and Emma Buesing ran to a 12th place finish in a star-studded cast on Friday, April 29.
Planked by Pirates
Six VG errors led to seven unearned runs in a 16-9 loss to Cumberland on April 25. Peyton Smith went 3-3 with five RBI’s, Tyler Wilson went 1-3 with a double and two RBI’s, and Sam Bender went 3-4 with three runs scored to lead the way. Luke Zimmerman also scored three times to help the cause. Parker Knierem was the hard luck loser in relief of Bender, giving up six runs (one earned) in two innings of work.
Cooper Clark scattered three hits, giving up one run in a complete game effort, as Villa Grove defeated Decatur LSA 2-1 on April 26. Jake Gilles and Liam Barr scored the only tallies for the Blue Devils, and Brady Clodfelder drove in a run.
Run over by Riders
Sam Bender went 3-4, and Brady Clodfelder scattered 12 hits, and fanned five in a complete game effort, but VG dropped a 3-0 decision to Arcola on April 28. Connor Block and Tyler Wilson each singled for the Blue Devils.
Alex Brown hit a pair of doubles and scored five times as Villa Grove cruised to a 19-2 win over Cerro Gordo Bement on April 25. Logan Lillard and Maci Clodfelder each scored three times and Chloe Reardon scored twice for the Blue Devils, who received 11 free passes from Bronco pitchers. Brown earned the win for VGSB,
Maci Clodfelder went 2-4 with a pair of homers and four RBI’s to lead the Blue Devils to an 11-2 win over Fisher on April 27. Alison Pangburn was 3-4 with two RBI’s and three runs scored and Chloe Reardon and Emma Bratten-Noice also drove in a run for VGSB. Alex Brown earned the win for the Blue Devils.
Silver bullet wolves
The bats were working early and often as Villa Grove shut out Okaw Valley 15-0 in four innings on April 29. Kaylee Arbuckle went 1-2 with a homer, two RBI’s and two runs scored, Alison Pangburn tripled and scored a pair of runs, and Logan Lillard tripled and drove in a pair of runs for VGSB. Chloe Reardon drove in three runs, and Alex Brown drove in two with a double. Kayln Cordes and Addie Wilson each had a pair or RBI’s for the Blue Devils.
Junior High Track and field at Arcola Invitational
Seventh Grade Girls
Baylee Martin finished first in the long jump and second in the 100m to lead the way. Evalice Callison backed her teammate with a 4th place finish in the high jump and a 6th place sprint in the 200m, while Lauren Carter soared to a 5th place finish in the long jump.
Eighth Grade Girls
Ryan Lillard led the way with a first-place finish in the shot put and a 4th place finish in the discus, and Piper Kiser mirrored her effort, finishing 2nd in the discus and 4th in the shot. Hayden Thomas ran 3th in the 200m and 4th in the 100m, and the 4×100 relay quartet finished 2nd.
Seventh Grade Boys
Landon Chambers finished 2nd in the long jump and 4th in the 100m to lead the way. Jaden Reynolds finished 3rd in the 400m, and teammate Bailey Keith finished 5th in the 110m hurdles. Logan Hauersperger powered to a 6th place finish in the 1600m event. The 4×100 relay finished 2nd.
Eighth Grade Boys
Thomas Vandeventer finished 2nd in the shot put and 2nd in the discus to lead the way. Jace Bennett backed his teammate with a 5th place finish in the shot put. The 4×200 relay finished 2nd and the 4×100 relay finished 3rd.
