City Council approves participation with CIMA

The meeting of the Tuscola City Council was called to order at 7:31 p.m. on Monday, January 24. 

Following approval of the consent agenda, the council approved their intent to continue participation in the Central Illinois Municipal Aggregation Group. It was explained that the City of Tuscola participates with a larger group of municipalities, the Central Illinois Municipal Aggregation, or CIMA) in bidding electric supply for the residence. This provides an option to residents and a simple process for them to opt out if they prefer another provider. The current supply contract expires in June and the city’s broker is advising a two year supply contract. They showed a video from Stone River group, the group we are currently in contract with. They explained that last February it was very cold and over the last year natural gas prices have increased. However, over the year they have shown a 12 percent savings across-the-board. They explained that green energy is currently the cheapest option for energy pricing. They discussed some more of the processes and encouraged the board to reach out to them if they had any questions. Mayor Dan Kleiss said that he believed the city should continue with this program in a two-year agreement. City Administrator Drew Hoel agreed, saying that the stability was nice for residents.

* Approved the minutes of the January 10, 2022 council meeting.

* Approved the December 2021 financial report.

* Approve the payment of bills in the amount of $198,889.59.

* Approved the Tuscola GSA Booster Club and Tuscola Odd Fellows 5K Color Run/Walk on June 18, 2022.

* Approved the Tuscola Rotary Club Daddy/Daughter Dance at Wimple Park on April 8, 2022. 

* Approved the Tuscom Little League request to install a memorial wall at the middle baseball diamond. 

* Approved an ordinance amending section 96.07 of the City of Tuscola Code of Ordinances Concerning the Memorial Tree Program. The ordinance changes the 

* Approved an extension of agreement with Tuscola Chamber and Economic Development for funding until December 31, 2022. 

* Approved an employee assistance program agreement with Carle Health Care, Inc.

* Set a committee of the whole meeting to discuss building needs prior to the next city council meeting at 6:45 p.m. 

* Adjourned until the February 14 city council meeting at 7:30 p.m.
