No time for the goose to fatten this year… Christmas is coming! The City of Tuscola is hosting Christmastown 2021 beginning December 1.

On Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Santa Shop will be held at the Community Building for kids to shop for their families. Appointments are available online on the City of Tuscola website  and walk-ins are welcome from  7 to to 7:40 p.m. At the shop, gifts will range from $1 to $10. Your kids will get to go shopping for their family with helpers. They will also wrap your child’s gifts when they are done shopping. You will set a spending limit when you fill out the shopping form.

All proceeds benefit Douglas County Relay for Life and The American Cancer Society.

A vendor fair will be held at the Community Building on Friday, December 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. as well as extended shopping at Downtown Design Studio, Posh Lily, Shimmer & Sheek Boutique, Winterberry, Sweet Soul Boutique, and The Vault Art Gallery. From 5 to 6 p.m., Jane Pickett Music Students will be performing at the Community Building. Food will be served during the vendor fair.

Saturday’s events kick off with the Santa Chase 5K Run/Walk. Registration will be held from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. at the Community Building, with the chase beginning at 8. From 8 to 11 a.m., the Santa Drive-thru will be held at the Douglas County Museum. There, individually bagged treats will be distributed to children in vehicles and the child will be able to pick out a toy. Santa will be on-site for outdoor and distanced pictures! Cars can enter on the west side of our lot, drive alongside the mural (where treat bags and toys will be located and exit by the door.) The vendor fair continues on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Kitchen Band will take the stage at the Community Building at 10 a.m.

Downtown shopping also continues on Saturday, with shops being open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Christmas Parade begins at 11 a.m., with line up at 10:30 at Ervin Park. Cookie Bingo is back by popular demand on Saturday – but this time with a Christmas twist! The congregation of the First Baptist Church in Tuscola invites the public to join them from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Tuscola Senior Building for Christmas Cookies and Candy Bingo. Members of the church will be calling bingo numbers to see who will win packages of Christmas cookies, Christmas candies, other Christmas treats and a few special Christmas Town Tuscola surprise gifts. Join the fun any time between 1 and 3 that day. Seating is limited due to COVID restrictions. Admission, refreshments, and lots of fun are free. The event is open to all ages and the Senior Building is handicap-accessible. Come alone or bring a carload of friends with you! There are also many opportunities to grab your picture with Santa; from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Community Building and outdoor pictures at Downtown Design Studio from 2 to 4 p.m.

GFWC Tuscola Woman’s Club proudly presents “Homes for the Holiday’s Christmas Walk” on Sunday, December 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. They are excited to feature five lovely homes on the walk plus a Christmas Tea at the Smith House and downtown shopping. Tickets may be purchased from a club member, all banks, Flesor’s and Winterberry for $15. The TCHS Class of 2022 is hosting Afternoon on Ice from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Senior Center Parking Lot. They will have an ice rink (synthetic surface) set up in the parking lot west of the Senior Center along Parke Street. Concessions will be for sale inside the Community Building, including a hot cocoa bar. They will also have kids crafts, face painting/tattoos, opportunities for you to take pictures with friends and family, possible appearances from a few Christmas characters and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there from 4 to 5 p.m. The cost for the event is $5 per person. The only additional cost will be concessions.  It was noted that if there are several people waiting to get on the rink, time will be limited to 20 minutes per trip on the rink. Tuscola Area Ministerial Alliance then invites you to drive through Ervin Park to see the live nativity.
