Tuscola McDonalds held the grand opening of its new restaurant on June 15, 2011. The three-month process consisted of an entire rebuild and update of the building. 

Alison Cler joined the Tuscola Health Care Center as the director of nursing. 

ARTCo summer youth theater camp presented two performances last week of “Once Upon a Shoe” at the Tuscola Community Building as a culmination of a two-week camp teaching campers about all aspects of theater. 

Kathleen Carmack and Philip Holthaus were pleased to announce their engagement. The two were set to be married July 9, 2011 at Forty Martyrs Catholic Church in Tuscola. 

The City of Tuscola prepared for the yearly Sparks in the Park celebration on July 1 and 2. 

The annual Eastern All-Star football game included recent TCHS graduates on the East’s roster. Pat Yoakum, Cody Shelmadine, John Turner, and Jud Wienke will join the field June 25 at Millikin.

Zachary Davidson, son of Richard and Marilyn Davidson, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC program and graduating from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree. 

Tuscola Chamber directors Pat Titus and Scott Kibler had no problems smiling when AmerenCIPS presented them with a $1,500 donation towards the Harvest Fest.

Golfer Brad Brown made Tuscola Open history with the first hole-in-one on 147-yard par 3 hole number 3 at Ironhorse Golf Course. Roger Schweighart walked away with the title of the 20th annual tournament. 

Justin Snider, a 1998 graduate of TCHS, was named a NCAA track and field All-American in Division III.

Tuscola City Council members caught a glimpse of the future as Mayor Dan Kleiss and city attorney Mike Carroll presented plans for the proposed golf course.

Tuscola car dealers would be hosting “Let’s Make A Deal” during the Summer Celebration tent sales in hopes of exchanging a lot of car titles.

Area teachers Carol Beals and Linda Hance were set to attend a seminar “The Roots of Illinois” at the University of Illinois.

Tina Hall of Tuscola was selected to perform with other Illinois Drill Team Association All-Stars at the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-Star game.

North Ward students would soon be plating on a new wood playground structure after the PTO decided to move forward with plans.

Darrell and Vicki Farris of Tuscola were proud to announce the birth of their first son, Michael Vinson.

Douglas County Board and Tuscola City Council members were negotiating contracts to provide cable television service for areas in the county lying outside city boundaries.

Tom Harriss of Tuscola announced he would be a Republican candidate for the office of Douglas County sheriff.

Karen McCartney was installed as worth advisor of Tuscola Assembly 55, International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Chief of the Tuscola Fire Department, Douglas Dietrich, was guest speaker for the Tuscola Junior Misses 4-H Club. He spoke on safety and the work of the rescue squad.

Sara Rowe and Charles Holmes were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony at Forty Martyrs Catholic Church.

William B. Yutzy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Enos Yutzy, enlisted in the United States Air Force.
