Participants of the 2011 Douglas County Relay for Life raised $55,400 for the American Cancer Society, with Becky’s Buddies team earning $21,000 of the total.

Bryant’s Recycling facility in Tuscola was gutted by an early-morning fire on June 7. 

Edward and Jo Ellen Schultz celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on June 21.

David Frye was selected as the 2011 TCHS Boys State Representative. 

Five Tuscola High School educators, Jon Hart, Kay Moser, Kerry Kincaid, Sue Elder, and Warner Eiben took with them 168 years of experience upon their 2011 retirement. 

Warrior baseball award winners who took home hardware at the June 12 banquet included James Knight – Warrior Spirit, Pat Yoakum – Highest Batting Average and MVP, and Josh Brookins – Most Improved. 

Phil Alrich shot a 73 to win the 2011 Tuscola Open on June 6.

Roland Spomer of Tuscola was recently presented the Lutheran Volunteer Teacher of the Year award for 2001 for his service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tuscola.

The Illinois Association of Realtors President’s Club presented the Pearl Award to Fred McDonald for outstanding performance in the year 2000.

Lawrence Graphics, was set to close its doors after being in business for seven years.

The dynamic duo of John Coats and Duff Hoel continued to hang on to first place in the Wednesday Night Men’s League. The pair chalked up 12 and half points this week to give them 51 and a half for the season, which has completed four weeks.

The sale of First Federal Savings Association of Tuscola to First National Bank of Arcola was approved by the board of directors of the Resolution Trust Company. 

John Siebold, Jarrod Coatney, and Nick Leonard were set to represent Tuscola at the 56th annual session of the American Legion Premier Boys State camp.

The Douglas County Museum was busy planning the annual spring banquet to feature Patricia Hall, presenting a slideshow, “Johnny Gruelle: Traditional Storyteller.”

J.J. Donnals and Scott Michener were included on the East All-Star roster for the upcoming Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois football game.

The annual Douglas County Illini Golf outing raised $20,500 for the University of Illinois. 

Greg Porter was elected to the office of senator and Jim Davis senate minority leader at the 46th annual session of the Illinois American Legions Premier Boys State.

Greg Skuta received his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He was to complete a general internship at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. prior to entering a three-year residency in ophthalmology. 

Greg Hastings and Kevin Conner led the hitting attack in the County Moultries victories over McCollam’s Insulation to keep them in a first-place tie with Kelsey’s Furniture.

Phil Wills advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout during Troop 19 Court of Honor exercises. 

Bill Bainord was named assistant vice president of the First National Bank and Trust Co. of Tuscola.

The Warriors moved to a 4-1 record in the Okaw loop after defeating Oakland 6-0 and being handed their first loss by Villa Grove 3-1.

Mr. and Mrs. Guy Penrod lost all of their possessions in a fire that destroyed their trailer hme. Cause of the fire was unknown.
