Michelle Morneau was giving community members a helping hand with her massage therapy services at Studio 36 on US Route 36. 

The Tuscola High School student council attended the IASC Student Council State Convention in Chicago May 5 – 7. 

The Tuscola Women’s Club held its annual spring luncheon on May 14. There, the ladies enjoyed the program presented and recognized 50-year members who had reached “Jewel status” Mary Williams, Tommi Davis, Maxine Chandler, and Carol McCarty. 

Lisa Ponder and Lindsay Troike were set to represent the Tuscola girls track team  at the IHSA State Track Meet. 

Top 10 seniors in the TCHS Class of 2011 included Olivia Morris, Stephanie Swaney, Katie Haake, Lindsay Troike, Lydia Swinford, Darren Timlin, Anthony Morrison, Chris Ransom, Pat Yoakum, and Tim Smith. Anthony Morrison and Katie Haake were also named class valedictorians.

Jackie Harbin, Julie Hoetker, and Clarice Hausmann were all recently inducted into the President’s Club by Illinois Association of Realtors, for exceptional sales performance. All were real estate agents with the Hillard Agency.

Kathryn McCumber and Leta Maloney became the 44th and 45th “Jewels” at the Tuscola Women’s Club May Luncheon.

Erica Hall and Jenna Wienke were set to represent Tuscola at the IHSA state meet. Hall was competing in the 3200, while Wienke would throw the discus. 

Warrior bats posted three non-conference victories on the season. Coach Smith had set a goal of 20 victories and seniors were happy to reach that coveted plateau.

Ninety-three East Prairie students graduated from the D.A.R.E. program taught by Tuscola police officer Jim Clark. 

The Museum Association of Douglas County received $36,00 from two sources following the awarding of the “tourism attraction” grant to the local museum by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs.

Emily Smith and Toni Best qualified for state meet competition. Smith was set to compete in the discus and Best in the 300 hurdles. 

East Prairie tracksters Patty McDaniel, Courtney Blaudow, Mike Woolard, and Erin Henderson would also be moving on to the state track competition at the junior high level.

Andrea Huber, a music theater major at Illinois Wesleyan University, was presented the Hope Ellen Pape President’s Club Award for the Fine Arts during commencement exercises. 

The annual bike rodeo sponsored by the Tuscola Police Department attracted 110 participants between the ages of 3 and 14.

Fire, water, and smoke caused extensive damage to the chiropractic office of Dr. Robert Beasley at 207 S. Main. Wiring in a small utility was being blamed as the cause.

Mark Smith surprised Warrior watchers by qualifying for the IHSA state meet in the 400-meter race.

Mrs. J. L. Bundy, Sr. and Mrs. C. E. Helm received 50-year pins from Mrs G. E. Maloney, chairman of the Tuscola Women’s Club Membership Jewels, at the May luncheon of the club.

Thirty-three donors under the age of 30 pushed the Red Cross bloodmobile over its quota by collecting 152 pints of blood.

Villa Grove News editor and publisher John Holmes passed away as a result of injuries received in a single-car accident south of Villa Grove.

The Warriors remained undefeated after capturing the title at the annual Douglas County track and field meet for the eighth straight consecutive year.
