Update from Superintendent Gary Alexander

Today’s letter is to inform you that we have a TCHS staff member who has tested positive for COVID-19. The Douglas County Health Department will be in contact with any person who is identified as being in close contact. Our custodial staff used our electrostatic sprayer this morning to disinfect Tuscola High School. Our custodial staff and teachers have been doing an excellent job of cleaning our buildings. I appreciate the time and effort they put into making our buildings safe.

Today, October 2, is the date remote learners need to notify the building offices of their intention for the second quarter. This will help the administration start planning for any changes that need to be made. The second quarter begins on October 19. If you choose remote learning for the second quarter, you will be required to stay as a remote learner for the entire second quarter.

It is hard to believe it is October. A few months ago we were studying pages of documents to develop a plan for Return to School. We have almost completed the first quarter. How crazy is that! I continue to be impressed with our students, parents, staff, and administration. Your dedication to making this school year a positive experience has been outstanding. Keep communicating and working hard to not let 2020 be a negative experience. I leave you with a motivational lyric from rap artist Tupac Shakur (students ask your parents who Tupac is), “No matter how hard it gets, stick your chest out, keep your head up and handle it.”

Sincerely,

Gary Alexander, Superintendent
