A word from Chief of Police Bob Rea

Hello Villa Grove!

Today is my 22nd day as the Villa Grove Chief of Police and I would like to provide you with a summary of what I have been up to.

So far, almost all my time has been spent on administrative duties and getting acquainted with the officers.  I am still waiting on some patrol equipment that should be in any day. Once that arrives, you will see me out and about. Right now, I am taking advantage of this time to evaluate the VGPD policies and procedures, equipment, training, and staffing needs.

I would imagine that some are curious as to what type of police chief I will be.  I intend to be visible within the community and accessible to everyone.  VGPD will continue the School Resource Program with Villa Grove Schools and our department will work to solve problems related to crime and quality of life. I also have high expectations and standards for the officers in our department and expect professionalism at all times.

Currently, I am working out of the Administrative and Billing Offices downtown.  Jacki Athey and her staff have been a valuable and needed resource for me, as I have a lot of questions. The Mayor and Council have also been very supportive, and I am very appreciative of them for giving me this opportunity.

I am typically in the office from around 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. so please feel free to stop by with any questions, comments, or concerns.  My door is always open, and I love a good cup of coffee with good conversation.

Best Regards,

Bob Rea, Chief of Police
