Watson and Wilson in Villa Grove Heritage spring sports senior spotlight

By Tony Hooker
With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing all athletic competition to a halt, I thought it would be good to get to know the seniors who compete for Villa Grove, Heritage and VGH coop teams.

What’s your favorite memory of high school that doesn’t involve being in a classroom?

If I am 100 percent honest I don’t really have a “favorite” memory from high school because my entire time in high school has been made up of so many amazing memories that I can’t just pick one. Every time I got to hang out with my friends after school and go on little adventures with them were some of my best moments! If it was hanging out at each other’s houses, Walmart adventures, stargazing, or going to the park and reliving our childhood I always made my best memories when I was with them. Although I will say going to Universal with my friend Kelsey my senior year was a big deal because I had to miss school. Now usually that would be great but if you know me I hate missing school. I did end up going and even though it was way out of my comfort zone I ended up having a great time! That will forever be a big moment for me in high school.

What are your post-graduation plans?

After graduation I plan on attending Eastern Illinois University in the fall and major in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early childhood Education and a possible endorsement in Special Education.

What’s your favorite class?

One of my favorite classes is Psychology.  I love learning about how everyone behaves and why. It can be useful in my field of study but also just because it is fascinating to me. Not only do I love the knowledge of Psychology, but my teacher Ms. McClard made it an exciting class! I always knew she was always trying to find interesting and fun ways to learn! Of course, I cannot forget about choir! Choir is where I can come and express my passion and love for singing! Plus a choir can become like family by the end of the year!

What’s your favorite restaurant? What are you ordering?

When I think of my favorite restaurant the first thing I think of is Chick-fil-a. However, as much as I love Chick-fil-a every time I travel near an area that has a Lamberts Cafe, I have to go. I usually order either a half slab of ribs or roast beef with mashed potatoes and of course their famous throwed rolls!

Cubs, Cards or someone else?

I have never really been a big sports fan, but my grandpa is always rooting for the Cubs and my dad was always rooting for the Cards. However when it does come around baseball season I do usually end up rooting for the Cardinals… sorry grandpa! 🙂

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

In ten years, I see myself in a school teaching a wonderful Kindergarten or First grade class. I hope to have a wonderful family and possibly three children. I am tempted to get a dog because I have never had one and have always loved them! I hope that during the summers my husband and I or the family can travel and go to wonderful places! I have always wanted to travel as much as possible and hopefully in the future it can be possible. I hope my friends will be the cool “Aunt/Uncle” for my kids. Of course most of all I hope that I am happy, loved, and have achieved my dream of becoming a teacher and helping my students become the best they can be!

What is your favorite sports moment?  What’s the first thing that you see when visualizing that moment?

My favorite sports moment is sectionals for dance my junior year. The first thing I visualize when I think of it is my hotel room and all of the memories we made during our stay there. I truly don’t think I have ever laughed more in my life!

Who does the best Coach Wilson impression?  Is it any good?

I would have to say that Coach Wilson’s football boys all do pretty good impressions of him. They get to see his not so nice side more than anybody else and they really let that show through their impressions! haha!

What’s your favorite class?

My favorite class would have to be Foods and Nutrition with Mr. Swan. I don’t think I ever went a day without laughing.

What’s your favorite food?

My favorite food is pizza!!

Cubs, Cards, or another team?

Cardinals and Blues!! The other teams don’t even compare 😉

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years I see myself holding a career that I love and possibly starting a family.
