Ashley Wishard receives EIU Rising Star Award

Ashley Wishard of Tuscola, received the 2019 Rising Star Award from Eastern Illinois University (EIU)’s College of Education at its award ceremony on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Wishard returned to school full time along with graduate assistantship responsibilities to earn a master’s degree in special education at EIU with licensure as a Learning Behavior Specialist.

Wishard is currently working on receiving her principalship. One day, she would like to become a special education director or work with creating curriculum for students with special needs. Wishard serves as a special education teacher in Tuscola, Illinois where she also co-teaches 5th grade math, is a resource teacher for other learners with disabilities in math, reading, and writing, and plans and delivers science and social studies instruction to her students.

Established in 2009, the College of Education/College of Health and Human Services Alumni Awards program celebrates and honors alumni who have excelled in their fields. The College of Education/College of Health and Human Services Alumni Board presented awards in three categories including the Rising Star Award, which is specifically given to alumni who are within 10 years of graduation.
