In recognition of March being National Agriculture month, the Douglas County Farm Bureau recently donated two books to area and school libraries.

“The Great American Dust Bowl,” written and illustrated by Don Brown, is a graphic novel about the Dust Bowl in the 1930’s. The illustrations, with shades of gray and brown, evoke the photography of the day. Survivors recollections are used as dialogue in the story. Graphic novels are an excellent way to entice older students into reading.

“From Seed to Plant,” written and illustrated by Gail Gibbons, explains the relationship of seeds and plants and their life cycles. This non-fiction book has simple text and colorful illustrations for younger students. The book also includes a germination project that children can try for themselves.
