The eighth grade girls’ basketball team closed the 2018 with a close, 17-21 loss to a talented Teutopolis team in the sectional tournament Wednesday, Dec. 5.
“The girls never gave up; they played hard to the finial buzzer,” Coach Beth Push said.
Tuscola led through much of the first half with the scoreboard reading 13-9 with the Hornets on top at the half. In the fourth quarter a couple shot opportunities didn’t fall in favor of East Prairie.
Ella Boyer led the girls with seven points, and Izzy Wilcox and Claire Meyer added three each. Marley Good and Harley Woodard had two points each.
“This team has improved a lot since the beginning of the season. The first time we played Teutopolis, Teutopolis lead at halftime was 22-2 and we lost by 14. We lost to ALAH the first time we played them and beat them in the regional tournament, then we went on to become regional champions. This type of improvement comes from hard work and determination. My self, Coach Ellerbusch, and Coach O’Hearn are very proud of the girls. They made their school and community proud.”
The teams packed the East Prairie gym, and fans left standing room only.
“We would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the girls at the sectional game against Teutopolis Wednesday night,” Pugh said. “What a great atmosphere, both sides cheered and supported their teams in a positive manner. The East Prairie gym was packed. The High School girls’ basketball team had to sit on the floor. Thank you to Mrs. Fowler and the East Prairie cheerleaders, Mrs. Bowen and the Warrior pep band. Thank you to Mrs. Munson and Mr. Smith for all your help and support.”
