Curves accepts the St Jude Challenge!

During the entire month of November Curves of Tuscola will be participating in a month-long fundraising event for St Jude’s. “How do you say ‘no’?” said Holley Phipps Owner of Curves Tuscola. “When the world renowned hospital called to ask if we would accept the challenge, we didn’t hesitate to say yes. I spent several hours and days conferring with my members, staff, family, and other community members to try to come up with a plan for how we would participate. In the end, I think we were very creative in coming up with a laundry list of activities that our members ad the community can all participate in to help us raise funds for this great cause.”

Curves of Tuscola will be participating in this fundraising challenge by hosting these activities:

  • There will be a “Giving Tree” put up at the 132 W. Sale St. location in which leaves can be purchased for $1. The leaves will be hung on the branches of the tree and displayed throughout the entire month of November. The tree will grow, as leaves are added/purchased. You do NOT need to be a Curves member to purchase a leaf. Anyone can stop by during hours of operation.
  • Curves of Tuscola will also have a 50/50 raffle during the entire month. Starting Thursday, Nov. 1 raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 per ticket or five tickets for $20. The winning ticket will be drawn at 8 p.m. Friday Nov. 30 at festival corner in downtown Tuscola. Again, non-members can purchase a ticket. You do not need to be present at the drawing to win. Tickets will be available for purchase at the sale street location during open hours of operation.
  • Members will participate in a “Walking Challenge” during the month of November. Each participant will pay a $10 entry fee (all of those proceeds donated to St. Jude) to track their steps each day. The winner of the challenge will receive a prize basket of coupons and gift certificates all donated from all local businesses. The challenge winner will also be announced on Friday, Nov. 30.
  • New members can join Curves during the month of November, and $30 of their enrollment fee will be donated to St Jude.
  • Finally, Curves will host a “hot beverage stand & bake sale” during the Friday, Nov. 30 Christmastown evening events at Festival Corner downtown Tuscola. Members will donate the baked goodies, and member volunteers will work the stand selling these items and hot beverages. All proceeds from the sales will be added to the total donation raised during the month’s activities.

About St Jude:

“Families never receive a bill from St Jude for treatment, travel, housing, nor food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent, and we won’t stop until no child dies from cancer. St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.”
