Golf: Ring steps up

Senior golfer Claire Ring stepped up and back this past week for coach Doug Bauer.
The leader of the girls’ team moved back to the men’s tees and teed it up for the boys’ squad on Monday the 17th at Clinton Country Club. Ring tied for eighth out of over 60 golfers in the Maroon Invitational leading the Warriors to a seventh place finish as a team at the end of the day.
She fired a 45, parring three holes during the round and was just five strokes off the lead. She helped the Warriors to their lowest 9-hole team score of the season.
Matt Erickson was next in line. The sophomore long ball hitter parred a pair of holes en-route to a 47 to take tie for 11th. Tyler Bialeschki was the number three for coach Bauer carding a 56, while Cory Dunn penciled in a 59 to round out the scoring. Coulson Poffenberger served at the alternate for the Warriors.
Ring will take her shot at a conference title on the girls’ side on Tuesday the 25th as the Warriors host the Central Illinois Conference Championships at Iron Horse Country Club. Erickson will be Tuscola’s best shot at All-Conference honors in the boys’ tourney the same day on his home course, as well.
They have one regular season meet left at Tri Counties Norton Knolls on Thursday the 27th before the IHSA post season.
