Warriors have tough week on the links

By Lenny Sementi
Tuscola’s boys’ golf team took to the links twice this past week but fell both times struggling on the road Monday the 10th at Shelbyville’s Fox Prairie before returning home to Ironhorse Golf Course for a quadrangular meet with Charleston, Villa Grove, and Casey-Westfield.

Mathew Erickson was low man for the Warriors at Shelbyville shooting a 51, but it was not enough as Tuscola ended up in third overall behind the host Rams and Tri-County. Next was sophomore Tyler Bialeschki, who was followed by Cory Dunn in the three hole and Landon Banta in the four spot. Colson Poffinberger served as the alternate for coach Doug Bauer.

Erickson was one better on the next night on his home course penciling in a 50 to take 15th overall out of over 25-golfers. Tuscola took 10 shots off the team score ending with a 221, but it was not enough to secure a win. Poffenberger was next in the scoring department with a 55, while Dunn ended the day in coach Bauer’s third scoring spot with a 57. Bialeschki was the fourth scorer with a 59, and Banta was the alternate. Branden Boyer was solid in the JV meet checking in with a career best 58. Jayden Gaines and Matthew Bennett took their cuts with the JV, as well.
