WCIA heads to Our Town Aug. 17

The community is invited to show the best we have to offer during the live broadcast of WCIA Our Town Tuscola from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17

The Our Town broadcast will welcome the Champaign-Urbana evening broadcast anchors as well as the anchors and storytellers from the afternoon CI Living talk show.

Local faces will be featured throughout the week with numerous stories to be broadcast highlighting unique places and bright spots throughout our town. The local highlight will culminate Friday in downtown Tuscola during the monthly Outdoor Movie and Artisan Market hosted by the Tuscola Public Library and city hall.

The event will including vendors, games for children provided by the library staff, inflatables, face painting, a small Wheels Car Club car show, hot dogs and brats grilled by Tuscola Kiwanis, a Tuscola Fire Department display, live music provided by the Kitchen Band and others, and more. Be on the look out for more activities to be added to the line up as the big event nears.

Part of the celebration will include the introduction of the city’s Touring Tuscola website, says Tuscola tourism director Anna Nelson. City staff members have worked for months to compile an interactive map featuring the city’s notable spots, historical sites, and public places.

The Douglas County Museum will provide walking tours of several of the historic downtown locations featured on the map, Nelson added. The addition to the city’s website will go live following the celebration.

The night will close with the family movie “Coco” that will begin at dusk.
