Every cell in your body is controlled by genetic material inside the nucleus of the cell called DNA. It was long thought that there was only one way your genes could express themselves. Just like a switch, it was either on or off. As science has progressed, however, it is now known that your genes can be expressed in many different ways.
The difference in the way your genes are expressed is largely based on your environment. This is called the Epigenetic Theory. In other words, the better your environment is, the better your genes express themselves and the better health you enjoy. You have the power to slow down the aging process, feel better, lose weight and have better energy by cleaning up your diet, exercising, reducing your stress, being social and empowering yourself.
Epigenetics and You
Between 70 and 80 percent of your biological age is based on your environment and 20 to 30 percent is based on pure genetic makeup. So, you have 70 to 80 percent control over how you age. Your biological age is based on how well your organs and tissues are right now. Your chronological age is how old you are according to the calendar. One of the most important things you must do is identify and then find ways to reduce your biological age.
The best way to measure your biological age is using biomarkers. Biomarkers are different objective things like blood pressure, weight and body composition. We will talk about that in greater detail later.
So, the best way for you to reach your goals is to teach you to control every aspect of your environment. You must find ways to assess your diet, exercise habits, stress handling ability and your social situation to make sure all of these areas create the best place for you to have less pain, more joy and slow down the aging process.
