East Prairie girls break school record at state meet

The East Prairie seventh grade girls’ track 4×200 meter relay broke a school record at the IESA AA state meet Saturday, May 19.

The team–made up of McKenna Kleiss, Izzy Wilcox, Mia Hausmann, and Ella Boyer–set a personal best and a school record with a 1:56.90. The girls broke the old record of 1:57.90 that was set in 2000 by Sarah Burroughs, Caitlyn Whittington, Jessica Ervin, and Whitney McGillen. The Tuscola placed 20 out of 35 teams at the AA meet, where the team qualified to compete against the larger schools by school enrollment of one student, Pugh said.

The seventh 7th grade 4×400 relay team, of Hailey Downs, McKenna Kleiss, Ella Boyer, and Mia Hausmann, ran a personal best 4:36.77 that was good for 24th out of 35.

Ella Boyer ran a personal best in the 200 dash with a 28.81.

“I am very proud of the girls they all gave 100 percent in every race they ran,” Pugh said.

For the eighth grade boys’ team, Peyton Armstrong qualified for the shot put contest. He the sand at 39 feet—good for 37th out of 46 competitors.
