One Minute with an Educator: Mrs. Morgan

Name: Carmen Morgan

Years in education: I have been an educator for 19 years. I spent 8 years teaching third grade in Atwood-Hammond, and this is my 11th year in Tuscola.

Subject/Grade assignment this school year: I am one of the 5th grade teachers and teach all subjects.

What was your favorite subject in school? I loved both English and History.

What is your favorite weekend activity? I enjoy spending my weekends watching my kids play sports. On a rare weekend home, I enjoy working outside or just spending time with my family.

What is your favorite book? I love the children’s book, The Westing Game and enjoy teaching it each year.

What are you most looking forward to in your curriculum this month? The kids are working on their latest S.T.E.M. project and designing an egg basket for an egg drop. They will be doing a test drop, evaluating their results, and redesigning their basket to withstand a 50 foot drop from the Tuscola Fire Department ladder truck! Thanks goes out to Tammy Bennett for helping with this project.

What are your students learning this week? Currently, my kids are working to create their own colony. They are working as families to build houses and businesses and will be learning to barter and trade for items in order to make their colony more successful.

What is your greatest motivator as a teacher? My greatest motivator as a teacher is seeing what my students have been able to accomplish as adults. I have been teaching long enough to see my former students become artists, teachers, actors, businessmen and women, etc…the list goes on and on. I love hearing from former students and seeing where life has taken them. I can only hope that something they learned from my class has inspired them in some way.
