One Minute with an Educator: Ms. McGowan

Name: Ms. Julie McGowan

Years in education: I have 19 years in education.

Subject/Grade assignment this school year: I am a Reading Interventionist (1st- 4th).

What was your favorite subject in school? My favorite subject is Reading.

What is your favorite weekend activity? My favorite weekend activity is spending time with my six-year-old grandson. We love going to the park when it’s nice or often watch a new movie that has come out. Sundays we start our day at church.

What is your favorite book? I have too many favorites to list all of them.

What are you most looking forward to in your curriculum this month? Since February is approaching, we will be doing reading activities that go along with special days in the month of February.

What are your students learning this week? This month we launched a new trial subscription with the FastForWord (reading) computer program for some of the students. I’m excited to see the progress they are making each week.

What is your greatest motivator as a teacher? There are many great moments with elementary students, but if I had to pick one I would say when working with a struggling reader and the look they get on their face when they realize they are reading….Priceless!
