Douglas County Retired Teachers learn changes in pension system

Douglas County Retired Teachers met for their last meeting of 2017 on Nov. 15 at the Smith House in Tuscola. After a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, Vice President Howard Osborne opened the business meeting and turned the meeting over to Carol Beals who introduced guest speakers Rich Frankenfeld and Nick Stabler from the IRTA who spoke to the group about changes in our pension.

After minutes were read and approved and the treasurer’s report was read, Connie Guennewig gave a report on the IRTA state convention. Among other things, she reported the Silent Auction was a great success.

The slate of officers for the coming two years was presented and approved: President Fred McDonald; Vice President Howard Osborne; Secretary Kathy Caraway; and Treasurer Connie Guennewig.

Membership Chair Sharon Fox encouraged all present to recruit new retirees to our organization. Gloria Kitzman announced she would be retiring after 15 years as meeting informant. Howard thanked her for her dedication and service.

Next meeting will be at the Smith House on March 21. The Arthur group will be in charge of the program.
